Today wasn’t a breakdown of law, but a breakdown of society

Published by Brad Garner on 2012/12/14 | Leave a response

I’m at a complete loss today. I believe Americans should own guns. I also believe no civilized human should be able to wreak violence against innocents the way that was done today. Though I think this psychopath would have found a way to murder, regardless of his access to guns, I wonder if his swath of misery might not have… Read more →

Canon 50mm f/1.4 autofocus died this week

Published by Brad Garner on 2012/12/07 | Leave a response

My 50mm f/1.4 was my workhorse go-to lens. The other day, I tried to use it for a shoot and discovered that the autofocus doesn’t work any more. I can hear the motor trying, but it doesn’t engage anything. Took it apart to see if anything obvious and fixable was evident, but ran out of tools before I ran out… Read more →

Sometimes Size Does Matter

Sometimes Size Does Matter

Published by Brad Garner on 2012/12/03 | 5 Responses

With memory cards, it’s not just about size, but speed and type as well. We used to call it “digital film” when we were all making the transition from actual film to digital, since this is where the images are actually stored after the sensor captures them. So, like film, you have to take the memory cards out of the… Read more →

James Bond: Time Lord

Published by Brad Garner on 2012/12/02 | Leave a response

Is James Bond a Time Lord? Multiple incarnations with different faces, personalities, but the same history. In-depth knowledge of all kinds of technology. The ability to adapt to any situation. A certain lack of respect for authority. Tenacity in the face of any adversity. Appearances at important events all over the world. Known all over the world by the same… Read more →

We Live in a Star Trek Future Already

Published by Brad Garner on 2012/12/02 | Leave a response

Star Trek was a vision of a utopian future, where money is abolished, the world is at peace, green technology is all that exists, star travel is a daily truth, and computer technology was vastly advanced. OK, so only the computer tech is a reality, but it’s pretty awesome! The smart phone has done more to bring us into the Trek age. We… Read more →

What’s a PASM and Why do I Want One?

Ah, camera settings and modes, the true “trade secrets” of the pro photographer. That dial on top of your camera that says AUTO, P, A, S, M (and sometimes B), de-mystified. The auto mode on any camera essentially does the same thing as every other camera – it measures the light, decides how wide to open the aperture and how… Read more →

If you’re normal, I’m glad I’m weird

Published by Brad Garner on 2012/11/29 | Leave a response

Some of my earliest memories that aren’t just fragments are around 5th grade. I remember have very few friends, and being told quite often that I was weird. A nerd. A geek. I can’t remember what I did to deserve those proclamations. Maybe I just showed off my trivia knowledge too much.  Maybe it’s because I hardly ever did the… Read more →

About Me

I am a professional photographer living in Phoenix, AZ. I started out shooting film and processing in the dark room, but now have an entirely digital work flow. I believe, strongly, in sharing knowledge and fostering creativity.

I'm happily married to an awesome woman, and we have two beautiful children.
